EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ROLE DESCRIPTION

Position Profile       

In partnership with the Women and Girls Fund Board of Trustees, the executive director will represent the organization in the community by establishing and strengthening relationships with numerous stakeholder groups, including current and future donors, nonprofit partners, and grant recipients.

The executive director will help elevate the WGF into a leading philanthropic funder, advancing the causes of women and girls in Waukesha County. Under the guidance of the Board of Trustees, the executive director will manage the day-to-day operations and fund development goals aligned with the strategic plan.

To achieve these objectives, the following are essential functions of the executive director:

Operational Leadership

  • Strengthen infrastructure and operations—adherence to the strategic plan, finance and budgeting, and database management.
  • Direct and supervise an administrative assistant.
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Trustees and staff all board and committee meetings to advance the mission of the Fund.
  • Assist the Finance Committee and the treasurer with preparation of an annual operating budget and provide budget oversight.

Strategic Vision

  • Assist the Trustees in building a highly engaged, diverse Board that has the connections, skills, and experience to help achieve our goals.
  • Enhance relationships and pursue synergies with other women’s funds, women’s groups and other philanthropic organizations.
  • Coordinate regular Trustee strategic planning efforts.
  • Develop financial goals and multi-year financial analysis.
  • Engage Trustees as peer solicitors.

Fund Development

  • Generate revenue to cover operating costs and maintain healthy reserve, while balancing the desire to grow the Fund’s endowment.
  • Develop an annual and long-term plan to grow WGF through strong, diverse, innovative fundraising strategies, including annual appeal, major gifts, planned giving, special events, and sponsorships.
  • Consider strategic partnerships in the community. Steward existing relationships and forge new relationships to build visibility, impact, and financial resources.
  • Track high net worth donor contacts and update donor profiles on a regular basis.

Marketing/Communication/Public Relations

  • Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and public relations strategies that will ensure consistency and enhance relevancy to position us well to secure revenue from major donors, foundations, and corporations.
  • Work with Trustees and the Marketing Committee to cultivate and maintain media contacts, community awareness and engagement, and fundraising messages.
  • Develop comprehensive communication strategies, including print, website, and social media.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of marketing/communications and public relations efforts.
  • Develop an annual report.

Grants Management

  • Enhance relations with nonprofit partners.
  • Promote grant application to area nonprofit organizations.
  • Establish outcome and effectiveness measures for organizations receiving grants. 

Professional Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree and applicable professional and community experience – CFRE preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in fundraising, office management, public relations, and community outreach or related work
  • Strong alignment to the Women and Girls Fund’s mission
  • Experience working in, and familiarity with, Waukesha County
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Creativity, flexibility, and entrepreneurial skills
  • Demonstrated success in working with various stakeholder groups and diverse populations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite as well as donor database management
  • Advanced level verbal and written communication skills; strong public speaking and/or presentation experience is a must.
  • Experience in project planning, management, and coordination.
