IMPROVING THE ODDS ... ONE GRANT AT A TIME
Research shows women and girls still face challenges in reaching their full potential. Barriers continue to divert women from securing better futures for themselves and their children. For too many, the frustrations of just attaining basic needs as they relate to women’s health, housing, nutrition, education, transportation and safety are overwhelming. The startling statistics include:
- Approximately 4,600 children in Waukesha County meet poverty guidelines. Many leave school on Fridays not knowing when they will have their next meal.
- In the first six months of 2016, there was a 70 percent increase in the number of domestic violence–related homicides in Wisconsin compared to the previous high.
- In Wisconsin, women earn 79 cents on every dollar that men earn. In Waukesha, female-headed households are three times more likely to live in poverty.
The Women and Girls Fund is dedicated to changing these statistics through meaningful grant allocations, turning statistical odds into positive gains for women.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, in 2017, the Women and Girls Fund awarded grants totaling nearly $85,000 to Waukesha County agencies with innovative programs that are making a difference. Together we are creating positive change.
Please help us expand the power of possibilities for Waueksha County women and girls with a gift to the Women and Girls Fund. Today more than ever, your generous contribution can help us improve the odds, one grant at a time.
